Haven’t had spanish in a while and we planned to go to Surry Hills. However, after a thorough search through Urbanspoon, we decided to go to Different Drummer. It was a Tapas and Cocktail Restaurant on Glebe Pt Road that only does dinner.
It was a pretty dark restaurant, no waiters and very small space. The service wasn’t great, no one really showed us a table or helped us. We just sort of wandered around and tried to find somewhere to sit. We followed the spiral stairs up and finally found a seat (with no help). We sat down and looked through the menu. We ordered 7 tapas dishes for $71 between three people. There was a deal where you could get 6 for $60, otherwise it’s $11 per plate.
The seven that we chose were:
- Panfried Potatoes with Aioli
- Garlic Prawns
- Risotto Balls with Porcini Mushrooms and Goats Cheese
- Naughty chicken – Fried Chicken with lime mayo
- Haloumi Skewers with sun-dried tomatoes, kalamata olives
- Tex-mex pulled pork tacos
- Beef sliders with wood smoked tomato and gherkin relish, vintage cheddar on brioche buns
You can never go wrong with the panfried potatoes. Although, I prefer the ones at Encasa because of the spicy and mayo sauce. The Garlic Prawns were good because it came nice and hot. Risotto balls were decent with good flavours. The naughty chicken was awesome. What can go wrong with fried chicken. It’s the best. Haloumi skewers…. meh, give it a pass. Pork tacos were a tad spicy which I’m not really a fan of. Beef sliders were probably the highlight. They were so cute. They even came with mini french fries and teeny pickles on the top of the stick.
I wish I didn’t drive so I could get some cocktails. They sounded delicious. However, slightly pricey.
PS. very bad photos because it was dark and I didn’t really want to turn flash on…… it was awkward in such a dark place to take photos.
